Top 3 Reasons Why People Drink Coffee

Americans consume approximately 400 million cups of coffee per day. Are you part of that statistic?

reasons why people drink coffee

In fact, coffee is the second most popular drink in the world, with water holding the number one spot. Despite common belief, your daily cup(s) of coffee provides more than just an energy boost. There are numerous reasons why people drink coffee on the regular.

We’ve outlined the top three reasons why people drink coffee below!

Drinking Coffee Has Several Health Benefits

Health Benefits?! 8 More Cups, Please.
Many of the nutrients in coffee beans make their way into the finished brewed drink. Packed with antioxidants and vitamins such as riboflavin, magnesium, and potassium, coffee can help to lessen depression, promote a healthy heart, and reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, liver disease, and liver cancer.

reasons why people drink coffee

Since coffee contains caffeine, this popular beverage can help people feel less tired, increase energy levels, burn fat by jump-starting the body’s metabolism, and improve productivity and brain function—including memory, mood, reaction times, and general mental function. Although there are many healthful benefits of coffee, consuming it in moderation is still important to avoid side effects, as well as limiting the amount of less-nutritious ingredients like cream and sugar you add to each cup of joe.

Drinking Coffee Can Be a Comforting Routine

But First, Coffee.
For many people, coffee is the first beverage consumed in the morning and can be relied upon for energy to help them get through the day. For some, the smell and taste of coffee are comforting. If you are deprived of sleep, having a cup of your favorite brew can help you feel more relaxed and ready to be productive. If you live in a cold climate, having a hot cup of coffee can be the ultimate remedy to warm the soul. If you live in a hot climate, you have the option of having your favorite coffee drink iced. Since there are a vast variety of coffee flavors, roasts, and add-ins available on the market, many people can customize their drink to match their exact preferences.

Coffee Culture Fosters Social Interaction

Coffee Date, Anyone?
Similar to social alcohol drinking at a bar, people enjoy gathering at coffee shops to meet with friends or to conduct a business meeting. Many coffee shops promote a relaxing environment with inviting décor, music performances, and more. Dating back centuries, coffee shops were and continue to be a venue where people can gather to talk, write, read, work, entertain one another, or to simply pass the time. Need to catch up with your best friend? Have a crush on a special someone? Meeting up for coffee is a great option.

As you can see, there are various reasons why people drink coffee, so go ahead and enjoy your daily dose of java. Use it to be more productive at home or work, to warm up on a cold day, or as a means to meet up with a friend.

And go ahead and admit how sick you are of your fridge at home being stuffed full with your kids assorted energy drinks and jugs of who knows what? A water cooler at the office or at home is a nice reminder that it’s always available for you to take a drink and refresh your thirst.

The Benefits of Home Water Delivery

So let’s set the scene:

You’re at a big box retailer and you’re filling your cart with 24-packs of bottled water. Dang, these are heavy aren’t they? It’s too bad the tap water started tasting funny a few years back. Is four 24-packs enough? Oh, wait, junior wanted his own 24-pack because it’s his turn to share with the team at soccer practice. Are these getting heavier and heavier? Wow this cart is heavy, oh well, it probably doesn’t matter, because nothing else will fit in here anyway.

Okay, that was semi-miserable, but we’re out to the car now. More heavy lifting getting all of this bottled water into the car. Now you’re sweating. Whoops, one of the bottles slipped out of the cardboard and is rolling away! Ugh.

We’re home now. It’s time to get all that water to wherever you store it. All. The. Heavy. Lifting. There has to be an easier way!

There is! Premium Waters will deliver all the water you want directly to your doorstep. No more stressing out when you see the 24-packs in your garage are down to just three bottles. No more lugging heavy 24-packs into your cart, out to your car and then into your home. No more making room in the garage to store your extra packs of water.

Bottled Water 101: All You Need to Know About H2O

Did You Know Bottled Water is the Number One Packaged Beverage in the United States by Volume?

You might have been able to guess that if you took a good look around at any office setting, workout facility or any public gathering. Yes, thankfully for us it’s pretty popular. Maybe you’re a bottled water drinker. Or maybe you’re here looking for reasons to start drinking Premium Waters products. Regardless, we know you’ve got questions, and this blog will give you some of the answers.

Types of Bottled Water

Spring, mineral, purified, artesian, what’s the difference? Turns out types of water are differentiated by where it comes from and how it is treated.

Spring Water
Sourced naturally from the ground and very popular in the United States.

Mineral Water
Little to no treatment and can be left with a high mineral content. The United States regulates mineral water to have a smaller mineral content, while countries in Europe have no regulations and leave the water with more minerals.

Purified Water
Otherwise known as “still” water. Purified water undergoes a variety of treatment processes until almost nothing is left in the water.

Purified Water with Added Minerals
Its name says it all. Minerals are added back in to Purified Water to enhance the taste.

Why do all these waters taste differently?

Minerals! Water gets its entire flavor from the minerals floating around in your bottle or glass. The higher the mineral content the more flavorful the water. This is the reason that some people don’t like purified water – they claim it has no taste. Others do not like mineral water as it can have a “metal” taste to it.

Who regulates all of these processes?

You guessed it– the Food and Drug Administration regulates bottled water extensively. We know…water is neither a food nor a drug, but it still falls under the FDA’s jurisdiction. All processes are regulated from treatment to manufacturing. Each of the 50 states has a delegation agreement with the FDA and is responsible for inspecting bottled water plants.

Bottled vs. tap…what’s the difference?

While there is often a lot of parity between the two as far as meeting government standards—often times, depending on the city or town you’re in, tap water can taste a little off. The Hammer Provision of the FFDCA provides that the Secretary of Health and Human Services shall consult with the Administrator of the EPA in regard to any EPA-proposed changes to the national primary drinking water regulations for public water supplies. If this standard is applicable to bottled water, the FDA normally adopts it.

Can bottled water go bad?

No! Despite some odd rumors, bottled water cannot go bad when stored in ideal conditions. In other words, don’t put your bottles of water around oil, gasoline, or harsh fumes. These can permeate the plastic and be harmful.

If things like gas can get through the bottle, why have the plastic so thin?

We’re glad you asked. Using plastic is convenient and safe. It’s inexpensive to produce and containers are fully recyclable. We don’t use thicker plastic because we don’t have to. Unlike sodas and other carbonated beverages, water is a still beverage. Thicker plastics and aluminum are used to keep the carbon dioxide in the drink to not let it go flat. Your water is flat from the start! So really, it’s unnecessary to use thicker plastic. Don’t store you water next to an open can of gasoline in your garage and you’ll be just fine.

Okay, it’s thin…but I’ve heard chemicals from the plastic still get into my water. Is this true?

Again, it is highly unlikely if you store your water correctly.

Hopefully we didn’t make bottled water more complicated for you. When it comes down to it, water is simple! Drink the kind that tastes good to you – it is all regulated! Rest assured knowing that as long as your water is stored correctly, it will never go bad and is not harmful.

Improving Skin Complexion: Drink More Water for Healthy Skin

Water: The Fountain of Youth for Glowing, Radiant Skin

Maintaining a youthful, glowing complexion, is a lot easier than one would think.

As we store away our winter wardrobes and pull out our spring and summer garb, our skin is typically more exposed to the elements. Sure, using SPF moisturizer is crucial to skin health and the prevention of sun damage and early skin aging, but Premium Waters wants to remind you that one of the simplest ways to look your best is by simply drinking lots and lots of water!

Everyone knows that there are obvious health benefits to drinking a lot of water—after all, the human body is made up of 60% water, so it only makes sense that regularly replenishing it with water would be healthy—but it’s also true that drinking lots of water makes you actually look and feel better, too.

So How Much Water Should You Drink?

You can find hundreds of studies that suggest this or that amount, but the truth is everyone’s body is a little bit different. A nice, general consensus is around two liters (roughly half a gallon) a day.

How Does Water Make You Look Better?

Drinking plenty of water actually aids in weight loss. Water has zero calories and drinking it frequently throughout the day can help reduce hunger pangs. Water also plays a part in burning fat, as every chemical reaction in the body depends on water intake. Drinking lots of water also boosts your immune system. People who drink lots of water are less likely to get sick, and water consumption also helps aid in digestion, which prevents constipation and bloating, which nobody ever wants, especially in the spring and summer months.

The truth is, the arrival of spring each year, while embraced by nearly everyone (Winter Warlocks aside), also brings with it a touch of humility. Most of us who don’t live in the Sun Belt, aren’t exactly thrilled with the idea of baring more of our skin as the temperatures rise. Well guess what? Drinking lots of water improves your skin complexion!

Store shelves are filled with bottles of creams and lubricants that can do wonders for your skin, but nothing moisturizes you skin quite like water. Drinking lots of water keeps your skin fresh, soft, glowing and smooth. Water is still the best anti-aging antidote out there!

Premium Waters can provide your home or office with refreshing drinking water that will have you looking your absolute best this spring and summer. With plenty of options, from single-serve bottles to a water cooler or water filtration system, Premium Waters will deliver the right option to keep everyone in your house or office healthy and happy.

7 Benefits of Drinking Water You Probably Didn’t Know About

Premium-Waters_Benefits of Drinking Water

A tall drink of water sounds like a really good idea, doesn’t it?

Now hold on a second, this isn’t a dating website, we were being literal there! Jokes aside, a tall drink of water is a very good idea. Most people are guilty of not drinking enough water throughout the day. We all know the obvious health reasons we should be drinking water. The human body is roughly 60% water and research says you should be drinking about 2.2 liters of water a day. Here are seven benefits of drinking water you probably didn’t know about.

Water Boosts Brain Power

Whether you’re getting ready for a client presentation at work, or studying for exams, you should have plenty of water at the ready. Water makes up nearly 80% of our brains, and the activity in our brains and nervous system depend on the abundant availability of it. We’re not exaggerating when we say that water boosts concentration, reactions and creativity.

Water Beautifies Skin

Skin is an organ that is made up of millions of tiny cells that contain water, so it’s important to keep these cells hydrated and “plumped” up – in addition to providing them with an external source of hydration, such as moisturizer.

Water Detoxifies the Body

Flushing out toxins is the job of two very small organs: the kidneys. They remove waste products and excess fluid from the body and, without the continuous supply of water to aid this process, all the toxins and waste build up. Drink plenty of water to keep your kidneys healthy and working at their best.

Water Can Help Prevent Injuries

If you find yourself with bad knees, a sore back, or weak joints, water might just be your answer. Lying in between each bone is a tissue called cartilage, which is there to absorb shock in order to protect the joints and bones. Water acts as a lubricant for these joints by keeping the cartilage moist and is, therefore, essential for looking after these areas – especially if you are physically active on a regular basis.

Water Can Relieve Headaches

Dehydration is one of the main causes of headaches, so try a few glasses of water instead of reaching for a painkiller. As we said, the brain is made up of 80% water, so its tissue shrinks when we get dehydrated, causing pain receptors to trigger.

Water Eases Digestion

Not only does water keep food moving along the digestive tract and lubricate the intestines, but it’s also required for many of the digestive processes to work effectively. Water prevents constipation and aids in the transport and extraction of vitamins and minerals from the food we eat.

Water Aids Weight Loss

Water goes hand in hand with weight loss and a healthy, toned body. Not only is it a zero-calorie drink, but it can also help reduce hunger and suppress the appetite — all helpful things when you’re trying to get in shape. Water is required for every chemical reaction in the body, including burning fat, so the more hydrated you are, the more effective your body is at carrying out these processes.

So there are seven more reasons why you should be drinking more water, but quite honestly we could go on for pages and pages about why drinking water is good for you. Be healthier, happier and have more energy, what’s not to love about that? Drink more water!

Premium Waters can provide your home with refreshing, clean, crisp and consistent drinking water. Whether it’s single-serve bottled water, a water cooler or a water filtration system, we deliver the right option to keep your family healthy and hydrated. We also deliver water to businesses and organizations of all sizes. Fuel your team with our fast, friendly, and dependable services.

Healthy Hydration Tips for Older Adults

Hydration For Adults

The fastest growing demographic in the United States is older adults. Not only are people living a lot longer than they used to, but they’re also staying independent and active longer than ever before. It’s a demographic that has unique health needs, and included in those is the need to stay hydrated.

Staying hydrated isn’t at the top of most older adults health and nutrition needs, but if ignored it can have serious negative health effects. Water is a critical nutrient throughout our lifespan; not only helping support the metabolic process, but it also helps with everything from weight loss to cognitive performance.

The importance of water doesn’t diminish as we age. Our bodies continue to need water, but older adults tend to experience less thirst, and are prone to drinking less water, even though their recommended daily fluid intake does not decrease. Also, older adults tend to be on more medications, which can lead to dehydration.

Here are some hydration tips for older adults that can help keep them healthy and active:

  • Because thirst is a poor indicator of hydration status for older adults, encourage them to sip water continuously throughout the day.
  • Keep a water bottle nearby, both while at home and when on the go. Studies show that the mere availability of water helps older adults increase their water intake.
  • Take proactive steps to ensure that they meet their daily goals for water and fluid intake.
  • Snack on foods with a high water content, such as watermelon, grapefruit, cucumber, and celery.
  • Find out if the older adult in your care likes his or her water cold or room temperature. Serving a drink at a preferred temperature will increase the likelihood of it being consumed.

Thirst is a poor indicator of hydration status for older adults, so how best can they regulate their water consumption without this helpful internal cue? The best way to combat dehydration is to help older adults prevent it in the first place. Older adults shouldn’t wait until they are thirsty to drink water. In fact, dehydration can occur long before older adults actually feel thirsty. Encourage them to make hydration a priority regardless of thirst.

Water Source:

Just because older adults don’t get as thirsty as they once did, it doesn’t mean their bodies don’t need to stay hydrated! Even if it’s just one extra glass of water a day, they will feel and function a lot better.

Premium Waters can provide a safe, consistent, reliable source of drinking water. Whether it’s individual bottled water brands, a water cooler, or a filtration system, Premium Waters has the right option for your home and lifestyle.

Staying Hydrated is Crucial in the Winter Months

Staying Hydrated

2018 certainly arrived with some wickedly cold temperatures here in the Upper Midwest! We’re certainly hearty souls however, as temperatures dipping into the negative teens during the first week of January didn’t stop us from seeing outdoor hockey games, crowded jogging paths and slopes full of skiers.

Winter activities and cold-weather exercise can be exhilarating and a great way to fight off the winter blahs, but make no mistake—dehydration is still a risk when playing in the cold temperatures. It’s easy to forget about hydrating when exercising in the cold—our bodies don’t get as hot, and sweat evaporates more rapidly in the cold air.

When it’s cold out, our bodies thirst response is diminished by up to 40 percent (even when dehydrated). This happens because our blood vessels constrict when we’re cold to prevent blood from flowing freely to the extremities. Our bodies do this to conserve heat by drawing more blood to its core.

When this happens, however, our body is fooled into thinking it’s properly hydrated because you don’t feel as thirsty and your body doesn’t conserve water. So in cold weather, athletes are less likely to drink water voluntarily and their kidneys aren’t signaled by hormones to conserve water and urine production increases.

Diminished thirst response and increased urine production are two of the leading factors that can lead to dehydration in the cold. Cold temperatures also cause increased respiratory fluid loss (when you can see your own breath, that’s water vapor that your body is losing). The colder the temperature and the more intense the exercise, the more vapor you lose when you breath.

It’s common to think that dehydration isn’t something you have to worry about in the winter, but keeping hydrated and drinking lots of water is every bit as important in the cold. Winter dehydration can cause exhaustion, muscle fatigue, cramps, loss of coordination and even a stroke. Dehydration also leaves your body more susceptible to winter colds and flu.

Not drinking enough water can also make it harder to keep off extra pounds during the shorter days when we tend to exercise less and eat more. When properly hydrated, your body is better able to break down fat for energy and your appetite is under better control.

Drink water before, during and after exercising in the cold temperatures. It’s obviously harder to do in the winter because you many not feel as thirsty and may feel like you’re not really sweating.

Just because you’re cold, it doesn’t mean your body isn’t thirsty—stay hydrated! Even if it’s just one extra glass of water a day, you will feel and function a lot better in the cold winter months.

Premium Waters can provide you with a safe, consistent, reliable source of drinking water. Whether it’s individual bottled water brands, a water cooler, or a filtration system, Premium Waters has the right option for your home and lifestyle.
